Month: May 2010
Swam around Cayo Costa with good friends Harold and Melissa. Made new friends too. Tons of sanddollars everywhere!
Harold and Melissa picked us up from our boat in their powerboat yesterday. Swimming, fishing, sanddollar picking, fresh tuna to eat, cocktails, lots of sun and awesome company. Back to work today so we can continue south. We sounded around Captiva pass last night and may exit that way instead of adding 20 miles to pass through Boca Grande pass again.
Trying the Boca Grande pass again tomorrow.
Went out last Monday via the Boca Grande pass. Just past the first red buoy the engine sucked an air bubble and died. We threw out two anchors. The wind and seas picked up as Steven worked on the engine. The bowsprit went under a few waves (the bowsprit sits about 7 feet above water) and we lost an anchor due to chafe. The engine came alive and Steven used all his strength to pull the anchor plus 100 feet of chain. We motored back in and anchored at Cabbage Key. We have been making repairs since and plan to try the pass again tomorrow. The float plan will be the same as before.
Anchored at Cabbage Key. Installing the anchor roller and finishing the windlass before continuing South.
Got spit out by the sea. Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
Anchored safely. Made it south a bit. More tomorrow.
