Major/Semi-major concerns for the Endeavour 40

Posted by – November 18, 2008

(Starboard navigation station & hallway leading to aft cabin)

Diesel & transmission need to be replaced, keel needs to be reinforced (it flexes when pressure is applied by hand), fuel tank hasn’t been looked at, thru hull fittings need to be replaced, blisters, used sails will be needed, lead in keel has been forced through the salon floor, left rear engine mount needs work, definitely needs both bottom and topside paint after a good sanding, bow pulpit is destroyed, stanchions on the starboard side need to be replaced, all wood will need sanding and refinishing, rudder needs some repair, all wiring/plumbing will need to be worked on, water tank needs to be cleaned and put into place, mast/boom needs paint, line should be replaced, prop shaft/cutlass housing needs to be repaired, a/c can wait but will eventually need to be dealt with, steering needs to be unlocked, chain plates need to be replaced in some spots, refrigeration is non-existent, aft head door and v-berth door need to be replaced as well as a forward closet door.

Sails are the wrong size :(

Measured the sails and surprise, surprise… they were WAY too small. These sails would fit a 30′ probably. And, they were 2 jibs. Not even a main. Sails are expensive (even used) and if we get this boat it will be a bit of a financial setback.

New worries!

New worries with the Endeavour 40. New worries usually equals extra time and money. These thru hull fittings are rotting. If you have to replace one you should probably replace them all.

Hmmmmmmm

OMG – Endeavour 40! Center cockpit. 13′ beam. Aft stateroom with private head. MAJOR interior work needed. Is it even a possibility? This sailboat could be a dream come true of sorts. The interior is destroyed. The flooring would need to be replaced, the diesel is shot, the wood needs a severe sanding and water tanks are not installed. This would be a major undertaking but the end result could be a boat that would take us around the world. On the other hand, this is a massive boat! Massive boats mean more costs with repairs, storage and such. Oh, and the 5 foot draft would make exploring a bit more challenging.

Endeavour 40! Center cockpit. Possible project boat with a possessive lien on it. The For Sale sign says there are sails included and that most of the body work has been completed.
